Spires: offer professional online tutoring from home
A selective route for experienced tutors, with online lessons, bank payouts and a platform fee built into the student’s total price.

How it works
Spires connects experienced tutors with students for live online academic lessons. UK tutors can apply, choose their availability and bid for work at their own rates. It normally expects at least two years of formal paid teaching, tutoring or lecturing, relevant qualifications and curriculum knowledge. Selection includes an interview and mock lesson, followed by references, background checks and payment verification. You need suitable equipment, reliable internet and a quiet teaching space; this is professional self-employed work rather than a beginner task app.
Check the tutor amount and the student’s total price separately. Marketplace jobs start with a 35% platform share of the student price, reducing by one percentage point per five hours on that same job to 20%; the provider’s £50 student-price example initially leaves £32.50 for the tutor. UK payouts use Stripe bank transfers, with Friday processing for eligible cleared payments and further bank transit time. Unpaid preparation, enquiries, equipment, checks and tax reduce your effective return. Approval and bookings are not guaranteed; only offer subjects you can competently teach.
