How it works

Lidl lists the white Tronic oil-filled radiator at £29.99. Its three power settings are 600W, 900W and 1500W, with a variable thermostat, seven fins and castors. The product page also lists tip-over and overheating protection and a three-year warranty. It is a portable supplementary heater, not a claim that electric resistance heating is always cheaper than your existing system.

Check your local branch’s stock and packaging details before travelling. At its maximum setting the heater uses up to 1.5kWh per hour while actively heating, so multiply that by your own electricity unit rate when estimating cost; thermostat cycling changes actual consumption. It measures roughly 31 by 55 by 24cm. Follow the manual, keep it clear of curtains and furniture, and never use it to cover or dry clothing. No delivery or electricity is included in the £29.99 shelf price.

Bit sceptical about how much electricity a 1500W portable radiator actually burns through compared to just putting the central heating on for an hour

Does anyone know if this Lidl radiator comes with the 3-year manufacturer warranty like their Parkside tools do?

If you run it flat out on 1500W it costs around 35p to 40p an hour on current tariffs, but once the oil warms up the thermostat clicks off most of the time. Works well if you only want to heat one box room.

Fair point about the thermostat cycling off once the oil is hot, makes sense for just heating a home office during the day
