How it works
Udemy lets you build a recorded course and sell enrolments online, so the work can be done from home in the UK. It suits someone with practical subject knowledge and time to explain it clearly. Publishing is subject to identity verification and course review; the standard video-course checklist calls for at least 30 minutes of teaching across five lectures, clear sound and HD video. There is no fee to host a course, but planning, recording, editing and answering learners’ questions are real work. Research demand before spending money on equipment, and use only material you have the right to teach and reproduce.
For individual course sales, Udemy currently pays instructors 37% of the net amount when a sale is not driven by their own promotion, or 97% when an eligible instructor coupon or course referral link is used. Net revenue excludes relevant taxes and fees; promotional pricing and refunds also affect earnings. Subscription programmes use different rules and are not covered by those percentages. PayPal, Payoneer and eligible Tipalti arrangements are listed for payouts. The normal schedule includes a refund-adjustment delay and payment in the third month; the $25 threshold can defer small balances until December. Check your account’s payout terms, currency costs and tax obligations. A published course does not guarantee sales or a regular income.
